Raft Rental Information – Know Before You Go!

Exploring the Snake River by raft or duckie is one of the most exciting ways to experience Jackson Hole. Whether you're looking for rapids or a peaceful scenic float, here’s some basics on what you need to know before launching your Leisure Sports raft rental.   We also sell customers a map with detailed information about the put ins and take outs along the Snake River.  

Rafting Sections, Put-Ins & Take-Outs

Whitewater Canyon (West Table to Sheep Gulch)

  • Put-In: West Table Creek Boat Ramp (past Hoback Junction)

  • Take-Out: Sheep Gulch Access

  • Length: 8 miles

  • Features: Class III rapids including Lunch Counter, Big Kahuna, and Three-Oar Deal

  • Best For: Experienced paddlers or adventurous groups. Not suitable for first-timers without experience in the runoff.
    A popular choice for whitewater raft rental enthusiasts.

Intermediate Section (South Park to Astoria)

  • Put-In: South Park Bridge

  • Take-Out: Astoria Hot Springs area (we recommend booking a soak if you have the time)

  • Features: Milder rapids and calmer stretches

  • Best For: Those with basic paddling experience or looking for a more relaxed ride with a bit of action
  • Great for those seeking an entry-level whitewater raft rental experience.

Scenic Float (Wilson to South Park)

  • Put-In: Wilson Bridge

  • Take-Out: South Park Landing

  • Features: Calm water, mountain views, and wildlife sightings

  • Best For: A laid-back float in a duckie or raft with minimal rapids. Best during low water periods.
    A great option for Jackson Hole raft rental customers looking to relax and take in the views.

Parking & River Access

  • Snake River Recreation Day Use & Season Pass information can be found HERE
  • West Table & Sheep Gulch: Accessible off Highway 89/191. Limited parking available—arrive early.

  • South Park & Astoria: Both locations offer river access and parking.

  • Wilson Bridge: Easy access with ample parking; popular scenic float starting point.

Check Current River Flows Before You Hit the Whitewater

Before heading out, always check real-time water levels to ensure safe conditions:

Flow rates above 18,000 CFS are considered high water and are recommended only for experienced whitewater raft rental users.

Permits & Safety Information for Your Rafting Experience

  • A Snake River Use Permit is required May 1–Nov 1 between Hoback and Alpine. Purchase through Recreation.gov.

  • All paddlers are required to wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets (PFDs). 
  • Wetsuits and splash gear are highly recommended during early season or high-water conditions to stay safe and warm.

Jackson Hole Raft Rentals and Self-Guided Trip Tips

Experience Matters: These are self-guided rentals. You are responsible for knowing your route, the river conditions, and your group’s capabilities. Whether you’re on a Jackson Hole raft rental for the first time or returning for more whitewater, preparation is key.

Be Prepared: Bring water, sunscreen, and river-safe footwear. Avoid cotton clothing. Essentials are available at Leisure Sports to supplement your whitewater raft rental setup.

Stay Within Range: Our rentals are intended for use within the Jackson, WY region. One-way or off-site drop-offs outside our service area are not available. All Jackson Hole raft rentals must be returned to their designated locations.

Leave No Trace: Pack out all trash and respect the natural environment and wildlife.
